Queen Camilla stepped out wearing a Fiona Clare dress that was already in her wardrobe for the Maundy Thursday Service at York Minster. But it was her brooch that caught a style expert’s eye.

Fine jewellery expert, Maxwell Stone, spoke to Express.co.uk to explain the significance behind the royal jewel.

He said: “It comes as no surprise to see that Queen Camilla wore such a special brooch for the Maundy Thursday service, as it’s the first of hers and the King’s reign.

“Queen Camilla accessorised her navy dress and matching hat with the Queen Mother’s Rock Crystal Brooch.”

The style expert gave some insight into the designer and the jewels that make an appearance in the brooch.

Mr Stone explained: “Likely to have been made by Cartier, the interesting brooch features rock crystal, surrounded by an Art Deco diamond motif.”

The jewellery expert explained that rock crystal is said to represent and why it was a poignant choice for the Queen Consort.

He noted: “A transparent variety of quartz, rock crystal is thought to protect its wearer from negative energy.

“This is something that’s particularly apt at present, as the royal couple have been met by protesters at recent engagements.”

When King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at York Minster, they were met with roughly 30 demonstrators from the group Republic, who were holding yellow placards and shouting “Not My King”.

Also, during the King’s upcoming Coronation on May 6, 2023, the protesters have said they will make themselves “unmissable”.

Mr Stone continued: “Having inherited the piece from her mother, Queen Elizabeth II gifted it to Camilla, who began wearing it shortly after her wedding to the then-Prince Charles.

“Recent appearances include the State Opening of Parliament in 2021, the Royal Festival of Remembrance in 2021 and the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.”

To accessorise, Queen Camilla wore her Philip Treacy hat and a Kiki McDonough “Apollo” mini blue topaz and diamond pendant in yellow gold.

The latter costs a whopping £2,300 and has the following description: “An exquisite 18ct Yellow Gold and Diamond intricate circle pendant encasing a beautiful Blue Topaz stone.

“The delicate design has been crafted to ensure maximum sparkle.”

Queen Camilla also wore her gold plate pendant with a ruby, her July birthstone, and the five initials of her grandchildren from her first marriage: Lola, Freddy, Eliza, Louis and Gus.
