The high street is an ever-changing landscape, with shopping and spending habits changing all the time. Both the pandemic and the cost of living crisis have been major factors, among others.

Back in August, Retail Gazette reported: “According to the British Retail Consortium, 6,000 shops have closed down in the UK in the last five years as a result of crippling business rates, a wave of administrations during the pandemic, and hesitancy around new openings.”

Some retailers have seen the launch of new UK stores in 2023, for example Mango, Sephora, Screwfix and Lounge Underwear.

However, many of the UK’s most popular retailers and supermarkets have been affected by closures, including Clarks, Marks and Spencer, Boots and Tesco, in November alone.

In some cases, retailers have made the decision to close particular stores and open others in their place to reflect customer shopping habits and needs.
