Late last year, Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie died aged 79. The Songbird singer lost her battle against metastasised cancer on November 30, 2022, prompting an outpouring of tributes from the entire music industry.

Fellow former Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks just opened up about her loss once again while on stage in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this week.

The singer halted the show between songs and confessed that one of Taylor Swift’s latest songs helped her through the grief she experienced in losing McVie just a few months back.

She told her audience: “Thank you to Taylor Swift for doing this thing for me, and that is writing a song called You’re On Your Own, Kid.” (Via Rolling Stone)

You’re On Your Own Kid is the fifth track on her tenth studio album, Midnights, which hit streaming services a month before Christine’s death on October 21, 2022.

Nicks told her fans: “That is the sadness of how I feel. As long as Chris was even on the other side of the world we didn’t have to talk on the phone. We really weren’t phone buddies.

“Then we would go back to Fleetwood Mac, and we would walk in and it would be like: ‘Little sister, how are you?’ It was like never a minute had passed, never an argument in our entire 47 years.”

She touchingly added: “So, when it was the two of us, the two of us were on our own, kids, we always were. And now, I’m having to learn to be on my own, kid, by myself. So, you [Swift] help me to do that. Thank you.”

Back when McVie died, Fleetwood Mac paid tribute to the singer from their official Twitter account.

A statement read: “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie. She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.”

They went on to add: “We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”

Nicks and Swift have a long history. Back in 2010 the Fleetwood Mac star was invited to perform Rhiannon and You Belong With Me alongside Swift at the Grammy Awards.

She did, and the pair made history as two of the biggest stars in the world collaborating on live TV.

Nicks later praised Swift, saying: “Taylor can do ballads that could be considered pop or rock and then switch back into country. When I turned 20 years old, I had just made the serious decision to never be a dental assistant. Taylor just turned 20, and she’s won four Grammys.”
