Next James Bond – Daniel Craig’s 007 replacement has already broken a record | Films | Entertainment

It’s been almost two years since Daniel Craig’s final James Bond movie hit cinemas and we’re still waiting for news of who his 007 successor will be.

Nevertheless, whoever the next Bond is has already broken a franchise record.

The outgoing 007 announced that what became No Time To Die would be his final outing in the series on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert back in 2017.

Of course, with hindsight, we know Craig could say this with confidence given that he killed off his incarnation of Ian Fleming’s spy.

Yet given that it’s been six years since the star announced his departure, the gap between that and the announcement of his replacement will be the biggest in the franchise’s history.

Pierce Brosnan’s last James Bond movie was 2002’s Die Another Day. Yet a year later he voiced his 007 in the official video game Everything or Nothing. 

It wasn’t until early 2005 that he knew for certain that his time as Bond was up and later that year Craig was announced as the new 007.

Meanwhile, it was only around two years between the likes of Sean Connery, George Lazenby and Roger Moore.

As for Timothy Dalton, he confirmed in 1994 that he wouldn’t return for a third Bond movie and two months later Brosnan was cast.

As for why it’s taking so long this time around, there are a couple of major factors that are out of producers’ hands. 

One was the pandemic delaying No Time To Die by 18 months and the other is the ongoing joint writers and actors strike. As a result, we’d be surprised if there was an official announcement of the next Bond before that’s resolved.
