Meghan Markle criticised for wearing diamonds grown in lab

Meghan Markle has been criticised by a jeweller for wearing diamonds grown in a lab while on a royal jaunt.

Jeweller Eddie LeVian is “concerned” people think it’s the same as a mined diamond.

He said: “It’s misleading.

“If Prince Harry proposed to you with a man-made diamond, would you accept?”

He added while speaking to the Mail Online: “I’m sure Meghan would have done.”

Meghan was reportedly spotted wearing lab jewellery bought from Kimai, while visiting Smart Works in London in January 2019.

Lab-grown diamonds are an alternative to natural diamonds as increasingly more people are becoming aware of the high environmental and humanitarian costs these diamonds involve.

They are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds, as they are made by scientists who recreate the same circumstances used by nature.

But many have questioned the lack of transparency in the lab-grown diamond sector.

Some critics have blasted the efforts to present them as a sustainable, eco-friendly alternative, saying there’s not enough data to support these claims, as lab-grown diamonds also have a carbon footprint.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) once said lab-grown diamond companies’ claims of eco-friendliness are “difficult to substantiate.”
