For the first time in more than 20 years, the Arizona Diamondbacks are headed to the World Series.

Arizona beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia in Game 7 to win their trip to the premier event in Major League Baseball.

The Diamondbacks will face the Texas Rangers, who beat the Houston Astros on Monday to win the American League pennant and seal their entry into the World Series.

Game 1 is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. ET in Arlington, Texas.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt had seven strikeouts and gave up four hits and two runs over the four innings he pitched. The following five pitchers gave up only one hit and zero runs combined.

Arizona’s Corbin Carroll had three hits in four at-bats, with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

Phillies starting pitcher Ranger Suárez gave up six hits and three runs, and he had six strikeouts over four innings. A Carroll sacrifice fly against pitcher Jose Alvarado in the seventh inning put Arizona up 4-2.

The last time the Diamondbacks were in the World Series was in 2001, when they beat the New York Yankees. It was just three years after they debuted as an expansion team in 1998.

The Diamondbacks got into a two-game hole against the Phillies early in the best-of-seven series but won their next two games.

Philadelphia won Game 5, but the Diamondbacks took the final two, and with them the National League pennant.

“I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it again: A connected team is a very dangerous team,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. “No matter what happened in those times of crisis, these guys stuck together.”

On the social media platform X, the Diamondbacks were jubilant.

“The Answerbacks (Series Version),” the team posted.
